AIMS AND SCOPE
The JIMD is the official journal of the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism, SSIEM.
It publishes results of original research and new or important observations pertaining to any aspect of inherited metabolic disease in humans and higher animals. This includes clinical, biochemical, genetic, experimental, methodological, theoretical, epidemiological, ethical and counselling aspects.
The JIMD also publishes reviews of important new developments or controversial issues relating to metabolic disorders.

All scientific contributions for publication in the JIMD (including JIMD Reports) must be submitted by the web-enabled online manuscript submission and review system. This system allows editors to keep review times as short as possible and offers authors the option to track progress of the review of their manuscripts. The online manuscript submission and review system for JIMD offers easy and straightforward log-in and submission procedures.
PUBLICATION TYPES
The Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease exists as two sister publications which are served by a single Editorial Team and a single manuscript submission and review process: the traditional print and online journal "JIMD" and the online-only "JIMD Reports".
The JIMD welcomes Original Articles, Guidelines, Rapid Communications, Reviews, Concise Communications, Metabolic Dissertations, Images in Metabolic Medicine, Editorials and Letters.
JIMD Reports publishes scientifically sound research findings or clinical observations that warrant communication in the peer-reviewed literature but are of more limited interest to the readers. JIMD Reports is the official open access journal of the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (SSIEM). The Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (SSIEM) may cover the APC for corresponding authors who are personal (non-corporate) SSIEM members, but only if they have no other source of funding. Authors will be prompted to specify whether they are members of the SSIEM during the submission process and that they have checked that an institutional agreement is not available. The SSIEM will confirm membership after the manuscript has been accepted and may check if an institutional agreement should have been used. Authors who apply for the APC for their paper to be covered by the SSIEM fund must have been members of the SSIEM for at least three months prior to the date of the submission of the paper and have paid their membership fee for the current year in full.
